Childhood Winter Illnesses
Now we are in winter, many children may be experiencing common illnesses like coughs and colds. The NHS knows that some parents and carers aren’t always sure what to do when their child is unwell. That is why they have published a new leaflet to help you spot common winter illnesses and how you can treat your child at home.
It is also important to know where to go for medical advice when you need it and what to do in an emergency. We understand this can be a little confusing during the coronavirus pandemic. We’d like to reassure you that the NHS is still providing safe care when you need it.
The leaflet has a host of information from how to treat colds and earache at home, to how to spot serious, urgent conditions, such as meningitis and sepsis. It also includes information on coronavirus.
You can download the NHS leaflet via the button below. It can also be found at https://hertsvalleysccg.nhs.uk/your-health-and-services/childrens-health/childrens-winter-illness
If you are concerned about your child, there are various ways of seeking medical help:
· For non-urgent concerns you should contact your GP practice during opening hours
· Outside of practice opening hours, or for urgent concerns, or if you’re just not sure, call 111
· In a real emergency call 999
· It is important that you do not wait and worry
